It's safe to say that if I'm stuck in a creative rut Galveston will always take me out of it. It has no shortage of inspiration. From it's beautiful victorian architecture to its egrets that grace every open green field. I always leave inspired.
When we first moved to the Texas Coast we visited East End Lagoon and took a long stroll down the beach in the winter. It was cold, windy, and overcast. The type of weather that makes you feel like you're the main character in a movie. I remember the tide was incredibly low and we were able to walk for what seemed like miles.
We found the entire shoreline covered with oyster shells. We took our bucket and filled it up. There were so many deep purples, slate gray blues, sandy browns, and muddy greens on that walk.
It brought back the sweetest memories growing up vacationing on the Gulf Coast and strolling down the beach with my family as we collected seashells. It was the first time I found oyster shells and I was so excited. I think oyster shells particularly capture that Texas Gulf Coast vibe for me through texture and color.
I've noticed that my memories have color pallets. So now, whenever I notice a color pallet, it stirs up vivid memories. Anyone else experience the same?
